What you say
“Domestic EICR at Mrs Khan's — three hours on site, replaced two cracked sockets and one tripped RCBO, labelled the board and issued a satisfactory cert. Two hundred and eighty quid.”

The reality
The pain you actually have.
Generic accounting software is built for accountants. This is built for an electrician who finishes a job at 5pm covered in dust and just wants to get paid.
01
CIS deductions get taken at 20% off your commercial sub-work, but most sparkies have no clean total of what they're owed back at year-end.
02
Customers pay £400 callouts on the spot but ghost £4,000 rewires for six weeks. You don't have time to chase, and you don't want to be rude.
03
MTD ITSA starts at £50k from April 2026, then drops to £30k in 2027 and £20k in 2028 — that's most jobbing electricians within two years.
What it does
Three things. Built for trades.
No bloat, no “multi-entity reporting”.
Voice-to-invoice that speaks electrician
Describe an EICR, a fuse-board upgrade, a fault-find, a Part P-notifiable circuit, in the words you actually use. The AI extracts the time, the parts, the customer name, and builds a UK-compliant invoice with sequential numbering, your business details, and your payment terms.
No typing on a tiny phone keyboard at 6pm. No remembering what you did Monday on Friday.
CIS labour-and-materials split, automatic
When you're sub-contracting on commercial sites under CIS, every invoice needs labour and materials shown separately — otherwise the contractor deducts CIS on the whole lot, including the £700 you spent at City Electrical Factors.
Honest Invoices splits labour and materials on every line, calculates your CIS deduction at 20% or 30%, and keeps a running total of deductions across the tax year so your year-end reclaim is a one-line figure, not a shoebox of statements.
MTD-ready records, built end-to-end against HMRC
Every invoice you record is a digital record in the format HMRC's MTD ITSA APIs want. Quarterly updates, BSAS, and the final declaration are all built and tested 16/16 in HMRC's sandbox — they go live to users the moment our production credentials come through.
The first quarterly deadline is 7 August 2026. If you earned over £50k last tax year, you're in scope now — starting digital records today is the prep work that matters.
From the founder
Built end-to-end against HMRC’s APIs.
Honest Invoices is built and run by Vix Hawley. The MTD ITSA integration was built by hand — OAuth, fraud-prevention headers, the full Self-Employment Business and BSAS APIs. It took months. The full HMRC sandbox journey passes 16 out of 16 steps with proof on file.
Most accounting platforms are built for accountants. This one is built for electricianswho don’t want to spend their evenings doing admin. £15/month. Locked. No price hikes, ever.
FAQ
FAQ for electricians.
Do you handle EICRs and other electrical certificates?
Honest Invoices is invoicing software — it doesn't generate or store the EICR / MWC / EIC certificate itself (you'll keep using your existing certification software for that). But every invoice line can reference the certificate number, the date, and the property address, so your invoice and your certificate trail line up at year-end.
Native certificate generation is on the roadmap once we've got the core invoicing flow rock-solid for our first cohort of electricians.
What about CIS deductions on commercial sub-work?
Every invoice tagged as CIS work splits labour and materials, calculates the 20% (or 30% if unregistered) deduction at source, and contributes to a year-end running total. Your CIS reclaim figure is ready when you sit down to do your Self Assessment — no PDS hunt, no spreadsheet.

I'm a sole-trader sparky earning £55k. Am I in scope for MTD ITSA?
Yes — from 6 April 2026. The first quarter ran from 6 April to 5 July 2026, with a submission deadline of 7 August 2026. You've got three more quarters to file through HMRC-approved software, plus an annual submission and a final declaration.
Honest Invoices keeps your digital records in the right shape now, and will submit directly through HMRC's APIs the moment our production credentials land. Full plain-English breakdown: You have until 7 August.
Will my price go up in two years?
No. £15/month is the price the day you sign up, and the price you'll be paying in three years. If we launch a higher tier in future, you stay on £15 — locked, in the terms, not just a promise.
We've watched accounting software prices triple over five years. We're not doing that to you.
I do mostly cash-in-hand domestic work. Is this still useful?
Yes — but with a caveat. If your turnover is below £20k a year, MTD ITSA doesn't apply to you yet (April 2028 threshold). Honest Invoices is still useful for chasing payment and keeping records clean, but the MTD-submission features won't be a draw. Once you're over £20k it becomes mandatory.
Can I keep using my own bank, accountant, and certification tools?
Yes. Honest Invoices is invoicing + MTD submission. You keep your existing bank account, your existing accountant (we export CSV for them), and your existing certification software. We don't try to be everything — we try to be the best at the bits we do.
