For UK gas engineers
Built for Gas Safe engineers. Compliant invoices in 30 seconds.
Voice-to-invoice for UK sole-trader Gas Safe engineers. Talk through the boiler install, the landlord round, the breakdown call — Honest Invoices builds the invoice, and CP12 gas safety records are in active build alongside it.
What you say
“CP12 round at 22 Pinetree Avenue — landlord Mr Davies, one combi boiler in the kitchen, no warning notices. Forty minutes on site. Eighty quid for the safety check, no parts.”

The reality
The pain you actually have.
Generic accounting software is built for accountants. This is built for a gas engineer who finishes a job at 5pm covered in dust and just wants to get paid.
01
CP12 paperwork at the end of a five-property landlord round is two hours of typing for ten minutes of actual time on each property. The job is done — the admin isn't.
02
Boiler installs get invoiced the next morning if you're lucky, the next week if you're not. The customer paid in cash, the spreadsheet is empty, the VAT trail goes cold.
03
MTD ITSA starts at £50k from April 2026, then drops to £30k in 2027 and £20k in 2028 — most full-time gas engineers will be in scope within two years.
What it does
Three things. Built for trades.
No bloat, no “multi-entity reporting”.
Voice-to-invoice that speaks gas
Describe a boiler service, a power-flush, an unvented cylinder install, a Part L commissioning, in the words you actually use. The AI extracts the time, the parts, the customer name, and builds a UK-compliant invoice with sequential numbering, your business details, and your payment terms.
No typing on a tiny phone keyboard at 6pm. No remembering what you did Monday on Friday.
CP12 landlord gas safety records (active build)
The schema, renewal reminders (30-day and 7-day), engineer + tenant signatures, and the six-field flue gas analyser structure are all in place. The wizard UI and PDF generation are the next milestone.
Built against the actual Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations — landlord address as a distinct field, engineer ID and Gas Safe number kept separate, tenant as a proper signer type. Not a styled template that just looks like a CP12.
MTD-ready records, built end-to-end against HMRC
Every invoice you record is a digital record in the format HMRC's MTD ITSA APIs want. Quarterly updates, BSAS, and the final declaration are all built and tested 16/16 in HMRC's sandbox — they go live to users the moment our production credentials come through.
The first quarterly deadline is 7 August 2026. If you earned over £50k last tax year, you're in scope now — starting digital records today is the prep work that matters.
From the founder
Built end-to-end against HMRC’s APIs.
Honest Invoices is built and run by Vix Hawley. The MTD ITSA integration was built by hand — OAuth, fraud-prevention headers, the full Self-Employment Business and BSAS APIs. It took months. The full HMRC sandbox journey passes 16 out of 16 steps with proof on file.
Most accounting platforms are built for accountants. This one is built for gas engineerswho don’t want to spend their evenings doing admin. £15/month. Locked. No price hikes, ever.
FAQ
FAQ for gas engineers.
When will CP12 generation actually be ready?
The data layer is shipped; the wizard and PDF are the next milestone. If you want to be first in line for the beta, sign up for the free trial now — we'll email you the moment it goes live, and your existing invoices will already be associated with the right customers and properties.
Does it handle benchmark commissioning certificates and G3 paperwork?
Both are on the certificate roadmap. CP12 lands first because it's the highest-volume document for landlord rounds; benchmark commissioning and G3 unvented cylinder records follow. Until they're ready, your invoices can reference an externally-issued cert number, date, and property — so your audit trail is clean.
I'm a sole-trader gas engineer earning £60k. Am I in scope for MTD ITSA?
Yes — from 6 April 2026. The first quarter ran from 6 April to 5 July 2026, with a submission deadline of 7 August 2026. You've got three more quarters to file through HMRC-approved software, plus an annual submission and a final declaration.
Honest Invoices keeps your records in the right shape today and will submit directly through HMRC's APIs the moment our production credentials land. You have until 7 August.
Will my price go up in two years?
No. £15/month is the price the day you sign up, and the price you'll be paying in three years. If we launch a higher tier in future, you stay on £15 — locked, in the terms, not just a promise.
I sub-contract on commercial gas projects under CIS. Does that work?
Yes. Every invoice tagged as CIS work splits labour and materials, calculates the 20% (or 30%) deduction at source, and keeps a running total for the tax year. See the free CIS calculator to test it on numbers you already know.
