The feature
Voice-first invoicing for UK sole tradespeople. Say what you did in plain English — client name, hours, materials, whatever bounces out — and Honest Invoices puts a fully-formed, MTD-ready invoice on your screen for review. Under 40 seconds from van to sent.
How it works
Step 1
Hit the record button. Talk normally. "Fixed Mrs Johnson’s boiler, three hours, new thermostat £45." No script. No filling in fields.
Step 2
OpenAI reads the transcript and pulls out client name, hours, materials, rates, and job description. Every extracted field carries a confidence rating.
Step 3
A draft invoice appears with every field editable. Nothing is committed to your record until you approve. This is the safeguard — you always see it before the client does.
Real tradies actually talk like this
You say
“Right, that was the Watson job — replaced the immersion heater, took me two and a half hours, new element was fifty-five quid, standard rate.”
What lands on the invoice
You say
“Kitchen rewire at 47 Ashfield Road for Dave Kumar, day and a half of work, cable and back boxes came to about £180, socket faces another £40.”
What lands on the invoice
You say
“Weekly clean at the Fern Cottage — two hours, cleaning supplies included in the flat rate.”
What lands on the invoice
What’s under the hood
The two-step flow — draft → review → commit — is a deliberate safeguard. If the AI mishears ‘forty-five’ as ‘fifty-five’, you catch it before the invoice is written to your MTD digital record.
Every extracted line item is classified as labour, materials, or exempt. If you’re a CIS subcontractor, the deduction rate applies to the labour portion only. No manual splitting.
Mobile-optimised. Talk into your phone standing next to the vehicle. The invoice is ready to send by the time you’re in the driver’s seat.
Same two-step commit flow with a keyboard if you prefer typing. Voice is one of several entry paths — job cards, quote-to-invoice conversion, and free-form all lead to the same MTD-ready record.
